Dr. Alexander Schanner is a promoted electrical and biomedical engineer and started his career as a university assistant with the distribution and project management of RIS / PACS projects. Internationally, he is also involved in the international standards for data exchange in the medical environment – in particular, the “Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise” (IHE) initiative, with the unique linking of technical standards with clinical workflows in interdisciplinary working groups, fascinated him enormously and shaped his further career extensively.
In 2003, he started the nationwide countrywide network of healthcare in the federal state of Lower Austria on the basis of IHE at the Lower Austrian Health and Social Fund (Nφgus) and implemented one of the first IHE XDS solutions worldwide. From September 2006 until the end of 2009, he headed the Arge ELGA as a program manager and made a lasting impact on the architecture of ELGA, the nationwide Electronic Health Record of Austria. Since July 2010, Schanner has been working for NΦ Landeskliniken-Holding and is currently responsible for the development of a RIS / PACS strategy as well as cross-sectional archiving and data protection. He represents Lower Austria among other areas in the coordination committee of the ELGA and in the technical advisory board of the ELGA.
Schanner is a member of the Executive Board of IHE Austria, as well as the General Assembly and the Steering Committee of IHE Europe.
