Dimitrios Kouvelas is Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and Head of the Clinical Pharmacology Laboratory of the School of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He studied both, Medicine and Pharmacy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His PhD thesis is on the Neuro-Psychopharmacology and he is specialized in General and Family Medicine.
He worked as post-doctoral researcher at Belgium, Austria and Germany on the field of Neuro-Psychopharmacology and then in Clinical Pharmacology, with special interest in Rational Prescribing and Clinical Trials’ Design. Professor Kouvelas collaborates (research, lectures and clinical work) with the Universities/Institutes, Karolinska, Max Plank, Innsbruck, Belgrade, Sofia, Kragujevac, Istanbul and Pasteur.
Today’s interest is focused on Rational Prescribing, Evidence based therapies and pharmacoepidemiology. His main effort is the education of physicians on Clinical Pharmacology, the patient’s training and the information of the society on medicinal issues and the adoption of “sharp” scientific models for the communication between the Stakeholders and the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Professor Kouvelas, for 3 years (2014-2017), was the Delegate of Greece at the Committee of Human Medicinal Products (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Today he serves as Chairman of the Committee for the Reimbursement of Medicines (Positive Medicines List), President of the Committee of OTCs, Vice Chair of the Negotiation Committee of EOPYY, Member of the Committee for the Medicines in the Research Institute of the Hellenic Medical Association etc.
He published more than 200 scientific papers and several Medical/Scientific Books or Book Chapters.
